Untitled 14

Did you know

This was the last time you were going to hear my voice

Husky and passionate and serenading you

Did you know

This was the last time we lay side by side

Your hand against my cheek

Breathing in my scent

Did you know

That the door you shut on me was the last time you were doing so

And that it hasn’t been open since

Did you know

That you left a piece of your self behind

Like soggy clothes on a felt carpet

The worst of the best seeping in

I did not know

That dropping my heart from the heights would smash the concrete below into dust

I did not know

That the blurred picture of us

Was the last smile we ever shared

I did not know

That beneath the earth

Magma flowed molten

Looking to vent

I did not know

That my happy days were ended

No one knows the pain

Of a romance wandering

Parched

Seeking an oasis long gone

In the desert of loss

Not when it smiles

A mirage of what no longer is

Because it has not happened yet
